Topology

The Network Insights Topology view provides a visual representation of network devices and link structures.

It not only shows the structure but also immediately reflects real time events such as link down, allowing administrators to quickly understand the network status. Topology provides two modes.

• Monitoring mode: view mode to check the entire network structure and monitor real time events
• Edit mode: create areas, or add, delete, edit nodes, and connect links to manage screen layout

Basic screen and settings

At the top of the topology screen, you can switch modes, select managers, change display formats, and access other main control functions.

Topology Map icons

Icon	Node type	Description
	Router	Device that routes network traffic to other networks
	L3 Switch	Layer 3 switch with routing capabilities
	L2 Switch	Layer 2 switch, data link layer device supporting VLAN etc.
	Firewall	Security device that filters network traffic
	Load Balancer	Load balancing device that distributes traffic across multiple servers
	Hub	Simple network distribution device (non-intelligent)
	IPS	Intrusion Prevention System
	WAF	Web Application Firewall
	WLC	Wireless LAN Controller
	Access Point	Wireless access point
	Server	Server that provides services or data
	Storage	Data storage device (NAS, SAN, etc.)
	IP Phone	VoIP-based voice communication device
	Appliance	Purpose-built network device (e.g., Proxy, UTM, etc.)
	Unknown	Unclassified or unidentified device

Common functions

• Pan: drag an empty area of the screen to move the view

• Zoom in/out: use the mouse wheel to zoom in or out

Monitoring mode

In monitoring mode, you can view the network structure in real time and immediately detect event changes.

1. Go to Network Insights > Topology.

2. Click the Monitoring mode tab to view the main topology view and Recent Trap Messages.

Main topology view

• Network devices are displayed as icons, with icon shapes differing depending on the device type such as router, switch, and firewall.

• Connections between devices are displayed as lines, with styles depending on status.

  • Normal (gray solid line)

    • When throughput is present, data flow is displayed as an animation via SNMP settings. SNMP configuration is required.

  • Link down (red solid line)

• If a device is powered off or disconnected from the network, a warning icon () is displayed so you can immediately check the status.

• A custom feature to group devices by area is provided.

Recent Trap Messages

The right panel displays trap messages collected in real time in sequence. You can check device and link events in text log format.

• Example: specific link down, device activation or deactivation

Edit mode

In the Edit mode tab, you can add/edit nodes, areas, and links.

1. Go to Network Insights > Topology.

2. Click the Edit mode tab, then select the desired mode from the right side of the screen to edit.

   • Topology Edit: Modify mode
   • Add Device: Add device mode
   • Add Area: Add area mode
   • Add Link: Add link mode

Modify mode

In Modify mode, you can edit placed elements.

• You can drag nodes and areas to change their positions.

• Click an element to edit its properties.

Edit area

You can edit the properties of created areas.

• You can change the background color and border color of the area for easier visual distinction.

• Click the icon to enter or change the area name.

• To remove an unnecessary area, click the Delete button.

Edit node

When you select a network device (node), you can edit its name and device type.

• Click the icon to enter or change the network node information.

• To delete a node, click the Delete button.

• Available device types: router, switch, hub, host, ap, phone, firewall, unknown

Add device mode

In Add device mode, you can add nodes to the topology. Select the device type and click on an empty space in the topology to add a node.

Add area mode

In Add area mode, you can add new areas to the topology. Drag the empty space in the topology to add a new area.

Add link mode

In Add link mode, you can connect nodes to each other. Click one node, then click another node to create a link.

Edit history

In Edit History on the right of the top option bar, you can undo or redo the tasks performed with the edit tools.

Item	Description
Undo	Cancels the previous edit. Shortcut Ctrl+Z
Redo	Reapplies the canceled edit. Shortcut Ctrl+Shift+Z or Ctrl+Y

If there is nothing to undo, each button is displayed as disabled.

• Reversible tasks: adding, editing, and deleting areas; dragging and resizing nodes and areas; adding, moving, and deleting page guides

• Irreversible tasks: adding, modifying, and deleting nodes and links (applied to the server immediately on save); panning and zooming

Note

The edit history keeps up to 50 steps and does not work while dragging. Changes to the same target that occur consecutively within a short time are grouped into one step.

Auto-rotation playback bar

When the topology is divided into multiple sections, the auto-rotation playback bar is displayed. On the playback bar, you can control both moving between sections and auto-rotation.

Item	Description
Page display	Shows the number of sections and the current position. Selecting an item moves to that section immediately
Play/Stop	Starts or stops auto-rotation. The current interval (seconds) is displayed at the top right of the icon
Interval selection	Selects the auto-rotation interval. The presets are 3, 5, 10, and 30 seconds, and direct input ranges from 1 to 120 seconds
Progress bar	Shows the time remaining until moving to the next section

The playback bar is displayed only when there are two or more sections.
